Tanning Accessories 

There are quite a number of new tanning accessories on the market for both men and women.  Just because you get your tan from an indoor tanning bed does not eliminate the need for UV protection.   The main protection from skin damage is to use good common sense both on the beach and in a tanning salon. 

Tanning accessories such as eyewear, lotions, and other protective coverings are all equally essential when getting a tan.  Probably the most important piece of information we could give is to read all the warning signs and labels on the tanning beds and accessories.  They will be of no use if not used properly.

Tanning lotions are the most essential of all tanning accessories and come in different degrees of UV protection for different skin types.  If you tan often and already have a base tan than the UV protection you would require would not be the same as someone tanning for the first time.  It is vital that you use a product that has plenty of UV protection.  Don’t expect to get the color you want during one tanning session. 

Another in the line of tanning accessories is protective eyewear.  This is a must have. The protective goggles will protect you from getting cataracts later.  Because so many people enjoy being in the sun cataracts are very common, affecting roughly 60% of people over 60 and result in over a million cataract surgeries are performed each year.

These protective goggles come in many styles and sizes.  Most salons will offer you a pair of goggles but it is much safer to bring your own.  There are small disposable eye goggles that come in sets that fit over each eye.  They do not have any head or nose straps so they do not leave a tan line. 

If you are concerned about your hair color fading we recommend you use a Solar Cap.  Of all the tanning accessories this may be optional for most people but if you color your hair it is very effective. 

Solar masks are also available to protect your face.  A mask will prevent about 96% of the UV rays and thus help protect you facial skin from premature wrinkles and aging.  I consider this tanning accessory to be somewhat essential for women.

When visiting tanning salons it is a good idea to bring disinfectant to clean the surface of the tanning bed.  You can never be too sure how well the beds are cleaned and maintained.
